My Diagnosis History

When my psoriasis condition got worsens, I was referred to a skin specialist at Jalan Imbi, KL. The doctor treated it with medication, crèmes and cleanser. But to no avail, nothing helps to reduce the problem. Almost giving up hope, I was recommended another skin specialist at Klang by my brother whom is having the same problem and it seems that the treatment helps. The doctor prescribed some medication and crème to apply. Soon after I did a full body medical check up, I was told that I had fatty liver and that could be caused by the medication I took for my psoriasis.

Soon later I found out that the medication actually contains steroid which is harmful to the liver. Since then I stopped taking the medicine but only apply the crèmes. However the crèmes did not help much in reducing the redness on the patches nor reduce the flaking. I was then recommended by another doctor in the same clinic to have laser treatment and followed by injections. The laser treatment not only did not help to clear the patches but darkened appearance. As for the injections, they were done to every psoriasis patches that I had and it did reduce the redness and show signs of improvement. Somehow the doctor does not recommended frequent injections to be taken as the effects could be worsen due to the toxicity of the medicine. There again another diagnosis failure.

Life then was really miserable as the scaly patches on my face were really annoying and I feel embarrassed to meet people. Then I was recommended to seek treatment from traditional Chinese medicine. I was again referred to a tcm doctor at Subang Jaya by my brother. After several treatments, there seems no effect and I decided to stop the treatment. But yet I believe treatments are still available, therefore I decided to continue my search.

One day while browsing through the newspaper, I came across an advertisement on a seminar on psoriasis. They claim to have a product which could treat psoriasis. In the seminar they explained on product and the process of the treatment with several testimonials. At first I was quite convinced but was told later that the product is still in the process of obtaining approval from the health ministry of Malaysia and it is only available in Singapore. With that information, I had a pull off.

Further more, from my consultation with one of their consultant, the treatment process is divided into several stages where the condition with subside in the first cycle, then get worst in the second cycle or they call it the crisis then recover on the third cycle. There is no guaranteed of recovery that after the crisis. Therefore I was set back.

After several months, I was referred again to another type of treatment. This time is Ayurvedic (Traditional Indian Treatment). This time treatment was quite similar to the previous treatments where medicines were prescribed but the only differences is this treatment requires detoxification and adopt vegetarian diet. According to the doctor, my body was high on acidity therefore I was prescribed some medicines to help with the detoxification to flush out the acids and was put a three months vegetarian diet. I followed the treatment and had been a vegetarian for three months eating only vegetables and soy beans and soy meats. Fruits are only to be eaten before meals as fruits eaten after meals will cause acidity. It was a touch period during time and I lost almost 10 kilograms. However my conditions were very slightly improved at the beginning but the progress somehow stopped and my conditions remains I gave up.

One fine day I went for a swim and right after shower, I felt a warm heat sensation on my face which later turns into burning sensation. My face turned red almost entirely the next day. I knew that it couldn’t be sun burn because I swam in the evening that day. I applied lotions but it didn’t help.

Then I was again recommended another skin specialist at Glenn Eagles Hospital, KL. The burning sensation and redness on my face were actually the outbreak of psoriasis due to certain reaction possible the chlorine in the swimming pool. The doc did not prescribed any medicine but just crèmes, lotions and cleanser as his diagnosis treatment were not on medication and he never prescribe any medication or crèmes that contains steroid.

The doctor also explained that the cause of psoriasis outbreak could also due to the food intake, environmental and etc. He recommended that I should be on fruits and vegetables diets plus exercises to build up my immune system. One of the reasons that contributes to psoriasis problem is the “awkward functioning” of the immune system.

Since then, I went on high fruits and vegetables but still continue on eating meats but has reduced to less red meats and more white meats such as fish. In addition to the diet, I also take omega fish oil supplement as recommended by the doctor. In addition to that following several research, I found out about Dr Xeniji from Elken. It is a form of enzyme which improves the immune system. So I decided to give it a try together with the treatment from the doctor.

After several consultations with the doctor, my conditions had improved but not cleared. The doctor advised to continue on the fruits and vegetables diet while work out more exercises and try to reduce stress. All the above were important to a psoriasis patient as a healthy life style will definitely help to improve the condition.

Since then, I have been trying to conduct a much healthy life style by eating more fruits, less meat and drink vegetable and fruits juices every morning before breakfast to control the condition.

  1. I notice your postings are made very late at night (Malaysian time). What is your normal bedtime?

Many P-sufferers have found a strong correlation between their condition and their sleeping habit. Do you notice your condition tend to be worse when you have lack of rest?

I understand it is difficult to adjust bedtime, especially in certain line of work. But if you could make some effort in the next 90-days, make observation about your sleeping hours. If condition improves or worsens at any time, make some notes about your sleeping time (trace back 7 days).

Start logging this in your journal. We may learn something from it.

  2. My bedtime are normally after 11pm due to workload. most of the time will need to stay up late to work after my kids bedtime as with them around there isn't much "me" time.
i truly understand that lack of rest contributes to the condition but there are times where workload are high and commitments are there to fulfill leading to difficult to adjust the bedtime.
Between 11pm to 12am is my normal bedtime for many many years, so it's like a normal daily routine. However i will trace the days where i sleep at abnormal times.
